I’ve gotten several requests for an editable version of the spice labels I made for my wife a while back. I created the labels using Adobe Photoshop CS5; the file size is relatively big and if you’re not a designer it would be easy to get lost in all the layers and what not I have going on. So I set about streamlining the process to just the stuff that people want to edit: the name of the spice and maybe the image for the spice. So now the next question: What do I create it in? Very few non-designers have photoshop and I don’t know how other programs like Gimp might open the file. I could do an editable PNG but then folks would need Adobe Fireworks or something to open them so that’s out.
So I needed to find a universal program and I thought about creating a version of the file in pixlr but there is a learning curve there unless you are already familiar with photoshop or other such programs…
Where I finally ended up is Aviary. I think they have a pretty user friendly set of tools available, they had a font that was very close to the one I had used in Photoshop, and anybody from any browser can just jump in and start editing it without having to install any new software ^__^
Just hit the image below and it will launch right into the editor so you can get started, if you’d like to go to the project page then click here.

The label is designed to print out at 2″ X 4″. When adding clip art for the spice make sure to set that layer to “multiply” so that it blends in with the background better. Happy labeling!
